Speech Therapy

Language disorders occur when a person has difficulty understanding others (receptive language), or sharing thoughts and feelings (expressive language). A stroke that occurs in areas of the brain (left hemisphere) that control speech and language results in aphasia. Swallowing disorders are feeding and swallowing difficulties, which may follow an illness, surgery, stroke, or injury. Cognitive-communication disorders include problems organizing thoughts, paying attention, remembering, planning, and problem-solving. These disorders could happen as a result of stroke or dementia. 

Speech-language pathologists (SLPs):

  •  Assess, diagnose, and treat speech and swallowing disorders in children and adults

Occupational Therapy
